What's the Big Deal with Greenland?
This March we're headed to Greenland to film our next documentary series, currently nicknamed "What's the Big Deal with Greenland?".
Across three episodes we'll discuss 3 reasons why Greenland, and the arctic more generally, has been hotting up as a geopolitical topic.
It's not just going to be a more snowy explainer video, we'll also be exploring the country and showing off it's beautiful landscapes to help dive deeper than the headlines and better understand the country.
Ultimately the hope is that the series is a bigger swing than our normal videos, mixing our normal video style with a grander documentary style as well as adding a dash of travel vlog/documentary.
Why are you doing this?
After years of producing our signature standard videos, we felt it was time to take a "big swing" and test the limits of what our team can achieve. We wanted to challenge ourselves by stepping outside the studio and moving away from the purely graphical style our audience is used to. By blending our traditional depth with the aesthetic of a high-end travel documentary, we’re aiming to evolve our storytelling and prove that we can produce "premium" content.
Greenland isn't just a remote island, it is becoming one of the most significant geopolitical flashpoints of the 21st century. As polar ice continues to melt, new shipping routes and untapped natural resources are transforming the Arctic into a theatre of international interest. This is a story that is only going to grow in importance over the coming decades, and we felt a topic of this magnitude deserved more than a standard YouTube explainer. It required a deep dive that only a multi-part series could provide.
While many geopolitical stories are defined by conflict and tragedy, Greenland offers a unique opportunity to discuss global power dynamics against a backdrop of unparalleled natural beauty. We wanted to move beyond the dry headlines and actually show you the landscapes that are at the heart of these international debates. Being able to visit and film safely allows us to bring a human element to the geography, making the complex politics of the Arctic feel more tangible and grounded for our viewers.
Finally, this series is a way for us to say thank you to our most dedicated supporters. We want to ensure that being a TLDR Party Member offers true value, which is why we are making this documentary an exclusive perk for our paying subscribers. By funding this "premium" swing, our members are directly enabling us to experiment with new formats and higher production values, helping us pave the way for the future of the channel.
When will it be released?
We're heading to Greenland at the end of March, so it'll be a little while until the whole series it edited and ready to release. The current plan is to release it alongside the Summer 2026 issue of Too Long, with a section of that magazine set to be dedicated to Greenland.
Who will be able to watch it?
The whole series will exclusively be available to TLDR Party Members.
